About Saint Lucia
Saint Lucia is one of the most visually dramatic islands in the Caribbean, and one of the most extraordinary to approach by sea. The twin Piton peaks, Gros Piton and Petit Piton, rise directly from the water near the village of Soufrière, volcanic spires of 770 and 743 metres recognisable from miles offshore. Anchoring in the bay beneath the Pitons, with the peaks disappearing into cloud above the boat, is one of the defining experiences of Caribbean sailing. The island’s sailing scene is centred on Rodney Bay in the north, one of the best cruising bases in the eastern Caribbean. Marigot Bay, a near-circular lagoon hidden behind a narrow entrance, is among the most sheltered and scenically perfect anchorages in the region. Inland, the drive-in volcano of Sulphur Springs and the botanical gardens of the rainforest interior add a dimension that few Caribbean islands can match. The Windward Islands lie both north and south, making Saint Lucia a natural hub for longer island-hopping itineraries.
